Milly Johnson is a novelist, poet, after-dinner speaker, professional joke writer, columnist, cruise correspondent, short-story writer and winner of ‘Come Dine With Me’.
She used to teach, trained for a while as an accountant, worked in sales, offices, mills, and a suggestion scheme. She has sold cruises (although she was sacked for ‘having an accent better suited to the textile industry’) and was a professional greetings card copywriter for many years along with the best friends you’ll ever find. Her first job was ghost-writing for Purple Ronnie when it first hit the scene in the 1980s.
She gave it her last and final big shot to break into books when she hit 40 and hasn’t looked back. She loves what she does and hopes that comes through.
She lives with her partner, teenage sons and cats around the corner from her mam and dad in the centre of Barnsley.
Proceeds from the evening were shared between The Friends of The Lamproom Theatre and The Barry Hines Memorial Statue Project.
