About the Lamproom
|
The Mission Statement of the Trust is ‘To promote and develop Performing Arts within and for the whole community of Barnsley and its surrounding areas whilst simultaneously striving to develop a Community Theatre that will meet the artistic needs and demands of local people and visitors to the town.’ Born out of a derelict Methodist Chapel, the venue has been developed by a hard-working group of volunteers, who work alongside a small team of staff which include a Theatre Manger, Technical Manager, Box Office Manager, Bar Manager and Theatre Technician. Regular visitors are amazed at the changes which are made to make theatre-going in Barnsley a pleasure. There are four performing groups associated with The Lamproom Theatre : The Lamproom Theatre Company (LTC), Lamproom Musical Theatre Company (LMTC), LYTES (The Lamproom Youth Theatre Ensemble – for young people aged 11 to 21) and Lamplyters (for young people aged 5 to 10). These groups are separate from, but at times mutually dependant upon each other and the Trust, according to performance needs. The Lamproom Theatre hosts many plays, musical, one man shows, and ‘Evenings With’ every year, providing the people of Barnsley with an opportunity to enjoy live theatre in their town. The Lamproom continues to grow and develop, making it the premier focal point for theatrical events in Barnsley. |
